How to Start a Local Chapter of Science Abbey
A Guide to Civic Action, Scientific Thinking, and Global Humanism
What Is Science Abbey?
Science Abbey is not a religious order, nor a political party. It is a humanist institution committed to integrating knowledge, compassion, and civic responsibility. Founded on the principles of Integrated Humanism, its mission is to nurture a new kind of citizen—one who is:
- Scientifically literate
- Morally grounded
- Socially active
- Globally aware
Through public education, thoughtful publishing, civic partnerships, and grassroots support, Science Abbey fosters a culture of informed engagement and ethical development.
How Science Abbey Contributes to Development
Science Abbey supports global development by:
- Educating the public in scientific thinking, systems literacy, and ethical reasoning
- Publishing accessible research on vital topics like health, energy, education, environment, and governance
- Promoting civic technologies to enhance transparency, participation, and empowerment
- Highlighting effective charities and development programs based on real evidence—not sentiment
- Creating open-source global curricula for civic education aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Supporting grassroots innovation and humanist movements in underserved communities
Through these channels, Science Abbey serves as both a platform for transformative ideas and a scaffold for real-world action.
How Individuals Can Participate
Anyone can engage with Science Abbey and contribute to its mission. Here are some ways to get involved:
- Read and share articles to advance scientific understanding and humanist values
- Join or form study circles and discussion groups on development, ethics, and systems thinking
- Volunteer your skills—whether in writing, graphic design, translation, coding, research, or outreach
- Support evidence-based charities featured in the Abbey’s evaluations and reports
- Collaborate with schools, universities, and local organizations to promote civic education and dialogue
- Practice the core civic virtues: curiosity, responsibility, integrity, and compassion
Science Abbey does not require belief—it requires engagement. It is rooted not in dogma but in the shared conviction that thoughtful people, working together, can build a better world.
A Movement, Not a Monolith
Science Abbey is part of a wider global shift—a new civic movement that includes scientists, students, reformers, entrepreneurs, educators, artists, and everyday citizens doing extraordinary work.
By starting a local chapter of Science Abbey, you join this growing movement. Your chapter can take many forms: a reading group, a school club, a community action circle, or a development lab. What matters most is the spirit of inquiry, service, and cooperation.
